Hartley Trusler is a Melbourne-based baritone originally from Perth, Western Australia. His impressive performance credits include Guglielmo in Melbourne Opera’s production of Così fan tutte, an Apprentice in Melbourne Opera’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, and the roles of Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte) and Lysander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Additionally, he has performed as Pluto (Orpheus in the Underworld) and Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus) at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Hartley also showcased his talent in the chorus of Melbourne Opera’s La Boheme and Samson et Dalila, solidifying his reputation as a notable Melbourne operatic baritone.
Currently, Hartley is an Emerging Artist in Melbourne Opera’s Richard Divall Program and was a member of Opera Scholars Australia from 2023-2025. He earned third place in the 2025 OSA Aria competition and was awarded The Maroondah Singers Memorial Scholarship for 2026.
Hartley graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2020 with a Bachelor of Music and went on to complete his Master of Opera Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in 2023.
Before starting his vocal training, Hartley Trusler trained as a classical ballet dancer at the WA Conservatoire of Classical Ballet, adding a unique dimension to his operatic performances.
